July 17, 2009, McKay woke up on his second birthday to see streamers and balloons in the doorway of his bedroom as well as in the doorway to the living room. He enjoyed walking through the 'birthday streamers' while they were up. By the end of his birthday, he seemed to realize that being sung 'happy birthday' to is a good thing. He wouldn't let me finish singing to him when I went in to get him up first thing in the morning.
We had a nice breakfast and McKay had a bath. Then we went to the library for story time and then to the park where McKay kindly dusted the sand off of the playground equipment before playing. 'You'll thank me later.' After lunch we read books and McKay had a good nap.

That afternoon, McKay got a phone call from Nanna Anna, Papa, Aunt Chantelle, Uncle Dustin, Uncle Chris (maybe), and Uncle David (another maybe) where he was sung 'Happy Birthday' to. No matter what Nanna Anna asked him, his response was 'ya'. When she asked if he had had a good nap, he said 'ya' and ran into his room to hold the phone up to his bed so she could 'see' it. He LOVES talking on the phone. While he was talking to Chantelle, she asked him about the books he got from the library and so he held the book up to the phone and showed them to her.

After dinner, we opened presents. McKay didn't need any help this time and was anxious to open 'more'. He was sure the red chair I was hiding behind my back was an Elmo chair. Sorry buddy! They only had Spiderman at the store! He does enjoy watching 'shows' while he sits in his chair, especially Elmo of course. The Elmo lift-the-flap book from Nanna Anna & Papa was a huge hit and every flap had to be opened before we could move on to the next gift.

McKay got some very nice gifts from his 3 sets of wonderful grandparents. Yes, it took both of us to take the picture above of McKay with his birthday 'loot'. McKay threw
all his wrapping paper in the garbage.

McKay's party plates & birthday streamers.

We had some friends with children McKay's age come and help us celebrate McKay's birthday with cake and ice cream.

Elmo!
I was happy when McKay recognized who it was supposed to be.

This is one of the only smiles we caught on camera and he isn't even looking at the camera. The extra friends made McKay a little shy so Jordan had to help McKay blow out his candles. It was nice having help eating the cake though!
Happy Birthday McKay, We love you!

Looks like a fun birthday. Of course he recognized his cake was Elmo! Good job decorating it.
Woah! good job on the cake Maria! It looks AWESOME! I'm glad he had a fun birthday. Oh and don't worry. He'll like spiderman soon enough. :) Unless he likes batman first I'd be ok with that. :)
