Last weekend we flew to San Jose to find a place to live. We got there Thursday and went to look at a place that night. I was very discouraged after we saw it. It was quite small, had a cracker box kitchen, and was in a huge complex of condos. Not only that but they wanted $1650/month for it. Jordan had several appointments set up for us on Friday. One apartment was actually quite nice but all the places in the neighborhood were behind bars - the windows, the doors and even the front yards. After driving around that neighborhood I didn't even get out of the car to see the place. We really liked another apartment but nothing (park, shopping) was close and it was not family friendly at all. After giving up on finding our way to our 2:00 appointment, we went to our 3:00 appointment in Santa Clara. Jordan had found it on Craigs List the night before. After walking through it we gave them half of a deposit - we knew we wanted it and their phone had been ringing off the hook. They didn't even bother to do a credit check. In fact, we were there the same time as another single woman and the lady showing us the place said she was waiting for her to leave so she could get her mother, who actually owns the place and lives next door, to come and meet us. It is in a nice, normal neighborhood with a huge park, library, and grocery store within walking distance. It felt like home! It is a 2 bedroom 1 bath duplex (yeah!! not an apartment or even a condo!) with a one car garage, a utility room, a small yard, and a fenced in patio. It is also one of the few places with air conditioning, which was very exciting considering we were there during an unusually hot spell (100+ degrees!) and none of the rest of the places we had seen had it. The duplex is about 10 maybe 15 minutes away from the San Jose airport where Jordan will be working. We were very excited to find it. Oh, and it is $1550/month. Definitely a tender mercy from the Lord, as this whole experience has been.

The kitchen is out of date but it is quite large. No dishwasher, disposal, or microwave and you've gotta love the yellow with green trim, and the gold stove/oven!

Wow, that looks great! Who needs a dishwasher and disposal anyways? I've never had a dishwasher that really works anyways! And the garage will be soooo nice. Looks like the perfect place for McKay, and maybe he'll even have an adopted grandma next door. kelli

Yay! I'm so glad you found something! Isn't it funny how you can know just by driving thru which place is right for you? I mean besides the obvious visuals, there is just a feeling. Jennifer lived in San Jose for a few years and it seems like they liked it and the people there. What a relief to have that over with!
So glad to finally catch up on you! Isn't it crazy how fast time flys...lets try and get together one last time befor you leave. Glad you found a place to live - what a fun adventure!
It seems you've been guided along this whole process. That can only mean one thing...your meant to go there right now. So glad you found a new place to call home!
That is so exciting that you found a place. I know how stressful that can be! I love the fact that you have a park, library and grocery store all within walking distance. Best of luck getting ready for the move!
That's pretty pricey but it is better to find a safe place than the cheapest place that isn't safe - the rental prices are similar to here in DC (outrageous! We are currently paying $1300/month for a studio apartment.
